Hi Brian,
I also answer (quite faster than in my previous mail) on this mailling  
list.

You could use any PostgreSQL version you want. For this, you just have  
to tell portage that you want ot use an *unstable* postgresql version  
as spécified also in the blog entry provided by Drew.
