[postgis-users] get extent of bunch of boxes

hi
i'm calculating some hundred boxes of linegeometries to get the extent
of each of the records.
now i need the overall extent (box). is there a way to get the box of a
bunch of boxes? or what is the fastest way to calculate this. I guess
merging all the linegeometries and the calculating the box might not be
the fastest, because merging the geometries costs more then looking on
boxes - or am i wrong?
