We specified ”automatic” tiling which apparently amounted to no tiling. Tiling properly seems like a good approach, thank you.

Hello,

We are trying to create somewhat large rasters (30-40 bands of data comprising a few GB of data uncompressed). At some point the import into PostGIS is failing. Supposedly there is a 1GB field size limit in Postgres. Is it really so that you cannot have raster fields larger than 1GB? Seems like a pretty big limitation.

Warm regards,

Hi, Postgis raster (AFAIU), is meant to store rasters in small tiles, one tile per row, and not as a big object in one row.
What is the tile size you chose during the import ?

Postgis will be much more efficient when dealing with a raster table with a lot of small rows vs few big rows.
