Folks,

As Karl notes, I mistook the message as having been personally to me, and
replied without checking the to address or anything.  Sorry about that.

I understand this position, but the problem I also often encounter is that
mailing lists configured to *not* rewrite the reply-to address to the list
often fail to capture much of the discussion because by default the discussion
immediately goes off-list between the original requestor and the replier.  On
a very busy list this might be a plus, but on a less busy list it reduces
public discussion.

Of course if people were more careful about who they reply to either mechanism
would suffice.  However, I have certainly noticed that I generally just "Reply"
(rather than Reply All) and I think many others do as well.

In short, my policy on not-too-busy lists has been to have the Reply-To
rewritten to the list in order to maximize list based discussion.
