[Proj] Projection of Airial images by reference points

Hello,

I would like to know, if the proj-libary might also have a function to give a 
projection of images or scanned maps where the geographical projection is 
unknown but where only some reference points are known.

For example I have some aerial images where I exactly know at least 4 or even 
more points on the ground with there geographical coordinates.

I would like to have a "projection", like latlon2xy and xy2latlon for all 
points of the image according to the known reference points.

Something like polynom-approximation?
Is there such thing already in proj?
