From m_nyrtsov at miigaik.ru Tue Mar 29 05:56:03 2016 From: m_nyrtsov at miigaik.ru (Nyrtsov Maxim) Date: Tue, 29 Mar 2016 15:56:03 +0300 Subject: [Proj4j] request Message-ID: <007301d189ba$5a30e050$0e92a0f0$@miigaik.ru> Dear colleagues! We would like to offer to you to include in the library of projections "proj4" oblique perspective-cylindrical projection. Normal perspective-cylindrical projection (projection pole is 90°) is included to the projections list of "proj4" under the name of Gall projection. However there are many Russian maps in oblique perspective-cylindrical projections. These maps are scanned and needed to be correctly georeferenced in GIS for later use. Particularly in one version of this projection (TsNIIGAiK projection - coordinates of pole of projection are 25°N, 80°W) about 100 maps from National Atlas of Russia has been compiled. Among them there are such maps: * Seismicity of Russia and adjacent territories * The largest deposits of minerals * Soil Map of Russia * Vegetation Map of Russia * Nature conservation and environmental management * Functional types of settlement * Russian Empire in the XVIII century. Another version of oblique perspective-cylindrical projection (Solovyev projection - coordinates of pole of projection are 75° N, 80°W ) has been used in our country for school maps since the 30s of the last century. In this projection contour maps were created which has been used not only scholars but also by scientists geographers to apply unique information. If you are interested in our offer we are ready to provide the projection formulae (forward and inverse). Sincerely yours, Maria E. Fleis, Michael M. Borisov (Institute of Geography, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia) Maxim V.
