Hi all: at our June meeting we touched on various developments at OGC
which relate to future CSW efforts.

The OGC service architecture is moving forward with a clean break on
long-time OGC service interface design patterns, aligning with the current
architecture of the Web [1]. As a result there is movement to align with
Spatial Data on the Web Best Practices [2], OpenAPI and JSON.

Current efforts in this direction can be found in WFS 3 development [3][4]
which is being developed in the open on GitHub (draft specification is
available at [5]). Aside: in geopython space we have been developing
pygeoapi [6].

Early discussions on CSW 4 indicate aligning to the WFS 3 approach, following
many of the design patterns with an information model suitable for
search/discovery.

CSW 4 was also discussed at the pycsw Athens dev meeting in July
(report to follow),
and pycsw will be participating as an early adopter/implementer of the
specification.

OGC will soon be setting up a CSW 4 Standards Working Group (SWG) along
with various GitHub/Gitter infrastructure. We are happy to report that
Angelos and I will be part of the SWG, and will report back on developments
periodically.

Cheers

..Tom
