Speaking from the organisations where I do some contracting that run
SLED, they are extremely conservative about upgrading to new versions of
SLED. They typically run it on servers with users using remote logins to
get their desktops. Doing such an upgrade especially when they have to
use certified drivers to access hardware systems like storage arrays is
extremely problematic. In my case of course I can just build from source
for them, but I guess in other organisations they will not do that.
However I agree with your statements regarding the high dependency count
and I guess its up to the individual organisations to figure out how
they will support their users over the long term on such distros.
