Yeah that is what I have been using to automate things for InaSAFE too.

e.g.
https://github.com/AIFDR/inasafe/blob/master/scripts/create-transifex-resources.sh

The documentation structure I use for InaSAFE is almost identical to the
one we have in QGIS so the scripts should be quite transferrable when I am
finished them.

It can also be used to automate tasks in the build process.

Don't worry - I will probably sort everything out since I am going through
this process for InaSAFE anyway.
