I would also be interested. According to this help page:

I used msgfmt -c getting_started.po and found that

- Fuzzy headers is one reason. If I remove the word fuzzy, this error
  disappears.
- A msgstr that has more or different %s variables than the msgid is another
  reason

at least in my file.

using msgfmt --check getting_started.po gives a more detailed description.
And after I fixed it, I could upload the po file.

But this seems to be a lot of work if all files have to be checked manually
that way and I haven't found a better solution yet.
