[Qgis-community-team] Revert and restore.

I've done some more updates, but seem to have got my fork out of sync. 

In my master, the commit b817416 is what I want to contribute. 

I'll have a go at fixing it this evening, but I'll probably end up doing it in a fairly destructive way - so if there's a way someone can just grab that commit, that would be great. :)
