Hi Jacob,
1. This is the wrong list to be asking that question on. As per http://www.qgis.org/en/site/getinvolved/mailinglists.html#qgis-mailinglists this is the "List for managing the community: websites, documentation etc." You probably want to ask on the QGIS user list at the top of that page.
Sorry, mostly people on this list have their minds on documentation and translations atm.
2. When you do ask on that list it is probably worth saying what OS you've installed on. Some of them, particularly Windows 32-bit, are known to be bad at handling large memory intensive tasks.
I hope that gets you a bit closer to your answer,
