The UK sites (http://qgis.uk and http://ukqgis.wordpress.com) have evolved out of the Wordpress blog but we're still using both which is, as you say, a bit odd.  We also use G+ and Twitter a lot and that is where most of the action happens.  The code for qgis.uk is on github (https://github.com/qgis-uk) and was copied from qgis.us (https://github.com/qgis-us).  I do like the Portuguese site as it integrates the blog and news items nicely.  I'll have a chat with the other UK folk and see what we can come up with using the QGIS PT code.

The Irish QGIS user group uses Wordpress as well - https://ieqgis.wordpress.com/category/qgis/ - interesting posts

Hi all.
QGIS Lucal User Groups are flourishing, which is obviously a Good Thing.
I believe helping them to standardize would be nice.
e.g. the Portuguese QUG: http://qgis.pt/ has all the site code on GitHub:

I think we should promote this approach, inviting other groups to share code etc.
