Sorry for CC, I had seen QgsLegend..., I have also found that it is
probably caused by  http://svn.qgis.org/trac/changeset/5080

I dont understand how can this:

else if(layer->type() == QgsMapLayer::RASTER) {
    const QgsRasterLayer* vlayer = dynamic_cast<const QgsRasterLayer*> (layer);

result in null vlayer.
