[Qgis-developer] qgis, grass, and gdal

I'm trying to get qgis to work together with grass and have some
questions.  It seems that to import grass layers into qgis, gdal must
have been compiled with grass support.  However, at the same time, it
seems that grass must be compiled with gdal support.  To me, this
implies a circular dependency.

What am I missing about how to compile grass and gdal so that
everything works both with qgis and with grass alone?
