Ah, that's probably why things are working fine.  Some distributions like to 
install 64-bit libraries to lib64 so that 32-bit and 64-bit libraries can 
co-exists side-by-side.  Fedora is one of them.

This was fixed back when qgis used autoconf in ticket #27 
(https://svn.qgis.org/trac/ticket/27).

If you look at the bug I'm working on for Fedora (bug #27549 - 
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=247549) you'll see that 
although the patch I attached earlier moves where the libraries are installed 
at, it doesn't seem that qgis finds them when starting up.
