Got much further by compiling from a fresh install and:
cmake . -DGRASS_PREFIX=/usr/local/grass-6.2.1
- -DGRASS_INCLUDE_DIR=/usr/local/grass-6.2.1/include
- -DGDAL_INCLUDE_DIR=/usr/include -DGDAL_LIBRARY=/usr/lib/libgdal1.3.2.so
make
but at make install (in fact I use checkinstall, but it should not be
different) I get:

Linking CXX executable CMakeFiles/CMakeRelink.dir/msexport
Install the project...
- -- Install configuration: ""
- -- Installing /usr/local/share/qgis/doc/AUTHORS
CMake Error: Error in cmake code at
/home/paolo/Desktop/buildpackage/qgis/cmake_install.cmake:30:
FILE INSTALL cannot copy file
"/home/paolo/Desktop/buildpackage/qgis/AUTHORS" to
"/usr/local/share/qgis/doc/AUTHORS".
Current CMake stack:
/home/paolo/Desktop/buildpackage/qgis/cmake_install.cmake
make: *** [install] Error 255

****  Installation failed. Aborting package creation.

The origin file exists, so I do not understand the error.
I would be grateful of any hint.
