[Qgis-developer] Just an idea about the layer checkbox "sensitivity"

Dear developers,
        
using the latest version(s) of QGIS I 've noticed that enabling a layer
in the legend is "smoother" than it was in earlier versions. (Hope this
isn't my imagination!)
        
I kindly propose to have an even larger "activation" area when one
"checks" a layer box. Frankly speaking, why not almost matching the
"activation" area with the "checkbox". Whaa could be the negative
effects?
        
I am not a programmer and have no idea how this is implemented at all.
