And what about automatic unit switching depending on the layer  range? As long 
values are <= +-180, it can be considered as degrees. If the coordinates are > 
180, the unit could be set to meters or feet depending on the user settings, as 
Magnus said ('We also add another selector (maybe in global options instead of 
project options?) called "Measurement presentation units:  (*) Metric  (*) 
Imperial".')
