I think automation is a very real possibility. It wouldn't be too hard 
to write a python script that takes the python plugin source from svn 
and generates a zip file which is then uploaded to the official repo. 
This could be a nightly build, or if we really wanted to could be run 
each time a plugin is changed in svn. I don't know much about svn, so 
this last bit might not be possible/easy, but a nightly build certainly 
wouldn't be a problem... I think Barry was looking into something 
similar for his Google code svn sites...
