Plase consider also ratman as a replacement of ossimplanet:
http://ratman.sourceforge.net/
it is quite good, and compiles fine on both win a linux (I assume also
on osx). It is based on qt, and integration should not be too difficult.
In the future, libraries will have to be split, and qgis could use only
the pieces needed for 3d visualization.
