[Qgis-developer] Integer instead of serial on gid column when using SPIT plugin to export shapefile

Hi,
is there any good reason why SPIT plugin is assigning  'integer'  data
type to primary key column (gid) instead of 'serial' data type when
exporting shapefile to PostGIS?

Such created table is not usable for clients expecting auto increment
value on 'gid' column and it also differs from standard shp2pgsql
tool.
In QGIS both data types are working. If there is no serious reason for
'integer', is it possible to switch to 'serial' data type ?
