[Qgis-developer] Label per feature

I noticed there was some work done in the past (GSOC) on labeling per feature for multipolygon features so that only a single label would be displayed. I thought that this was going to be merged into qgis 1.4 - why can't I find any reference to this functionality in any of the python API developer docs?
