I assume you compiled PyQt for the python.org Python 2.5, and then configured Qgis for the same?  It should work theoretically, though I haven't tried that combination (the default configuration for the Xcode project is to use the system python).

Or as John pointed out, maybe your old configuration file for Qgis is still configured for the python.org Python but you intended to use the system python?
