[Qgis-developer] Selecting a shape with the mouse?

Hi,

I'm writing an GIS application using QGIS 1.5.0. 

I have been trying to select one shape with the mouse from the canvas to
then maybe change its color or query its data. But I still don't know how to
do it.

I'm using QtCreator.

Help!!!
