[Qgis-developer] Slow rendering of shapefile in python-qgis application

I build a custom app with python and qgis bindinds. When I'm opening a big
shapefile (multipolygon) the rendering is very slow and the app freezes. I
also check the same data as spatial layer but the problem still remains.
Zoom and panning are also slow.Opening the same shapefile in qgis is
rendered fast. I'm working with qgis 1.7 What could be the problem?
