[Qgis-developer] Different Label engines in Qgis not speaking with each other?

ok, thanks, and apparently they are completely independent, I see now...

The reason the label color was not changing in my test was just because
I was looking at the 'old' labeling engines labels and changing
properties of the new labeling without seeing them: I did not yet choose
one of the attribute names in the 'Field with labels' dropdown (and... I
did not check the checkbox 'Label this layer' immediately ...)

My view as a (monkey)user:
- IF a user pushes the [ABC] button, please initialise the dialog with
'Label this layer' checked, and the first item of the 'Field with
labels' chosen.
In this way you are at least aware that (at the moment) there are two
labelling engines, AND you see labels immediately without too much clicking
