[Qgis-developer] Projection widget improvement

Hi All,

I find that the internal projection ID is important when working with User Defined Coordinate Systems. In these cases there is no Authority ID and being able to see the internal projection ID is necessary when moving QGIS projects between different computers. User defined coordinate systems are not always defined in the same order on different computers, resulting in the same user defined system having different IDs on different computers.

When loading projects QGIS seems to match up user defined systems by ID and not the name, which causes problems when moving projects between computers. In these cases it is important to see the IDs in order to match up the user defined systems when opening a project on another computer.

Example: Computer 1 has a user defined system called Lo31 with an internal ID of 10000 and a system called Lo33 with an ID of 10001. Computer 2 also has user defined systems of Lo31 and Lo33 but these have IDs of 10001 and 10000, respectively (because they have been defined in a different order to computer 1). If a project using Lo31 is moved from computer 1 to computer 2, QGIS on computer 2 assigns the project a CRS of Lo33, which is wrong.

Frank.

Subject: [Qgis-developer] Projection widget improvement
Hi all.
I think the projection widget should be improved, by having the search
filtering the projections rather than moving to the next matching (as it
happens e.g. in the plugin list). Also, it would be good to have the
search working in both fields (people often overlook the search field
selector). Finally, the internal projection ID could be hidden (I do not
see any use of it for the user).
If agreed, it's a trivial change.
All the best.
