Furthermore, I suggest to move all the plugins' About dialog boxes
into the main Help menu: 

 Help->Plugins->About plugin X

Help->Plugins->About plugin Y
 Help->Plugins->... 

Another suggestion
is to make standard that the plugin GUI includes a "Help" or "About"
button. 

Now, to come back to Paolo layout idea, what about (it is what
I'm using for my plugins!!):
