API is already broken with the raster architecture changes, so I think
we are better off releasing 2.0 sooner and with less features than
putting out a 1.9 which is not API compliant with the rest of the 1.x
series. My idea was to present (and let others add) all the ideas out
there and then pare it down to a reaslistic list. Personally I was
thinking / hoping we could do a 2.0 release by year's end.
