[Qgis-developer] Help me compile a 'what's new' list for QGIS 1.8

In order for users to help out with this and other issues involving
testing of the RC
versions(s) on linux machines, it would be very important to be able
of installing the
RC binary version with a different name (i.e., qgisdev or qgisRC).
Many users can afford
regularly using the RC version, which would be the best and most
simple way of testing and
detecting (and critically valuating) the new features, but if and only
if the stable qgis version (currently 1.7.4)
is still there as fallback.

Not sure how difficult/involved is making this coexistence to happen,
but I think that the effort should be considered taking into account
the gain in terms of real life testing.

(I know compiling is an alternative, but it is one that will not be
considered by most users).
