[Qgis-developer] "Jump" to coordinates possible?

Hi list,

is it possible to send an input (API?) with coordinates of a specific 
point of interest to QGIS and make the map to render/jump to this 
specific point?
Background fire services: a alarm address (coordinates) should be shown 
on the map to explore the structure and the area around.
