Hi

I think it depends on what is the "oldest" distribution we would like
to support ..
I guess that would be Ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx - LTS .. which has
libqtcore4 (4.6.2) at the moment..

Dropping the "support" for lucid would bring us to Ubuntu 12:04 which
is precise pengolin - LTS and has libqt4-core (4.8.1) currently

so in either way .. if I am not wrong with assuming that for every
other OS there is newer QT available QT4.6 is currently the minimum
version anyway (unless we drop lucid which will make the jump to QT4.8)

Lucid is officially supported by canonical until May 2013 (Desktop) -
We already passed that .. And April 2015 (Server) - thats 1 1/2 years..

So as a conclusion .. I assume as QGIS is a Desktop application we
passed the life cycle of lucid ..
Still the QGIS-Server part might be of interest ..
Is it possible to compile "just" the server-part with Qt4.6?

I'd rather take the step forward to 4.8 either .. even the stable
version of debian (which is usually behind everything) has QT4.8.

Opinions?

Kind regards
Werner
