If I may suggest something (not that I'm volunteering to do it myself for QGIS 
;-)), a Vagrant setup based on a Ubuntu Precise 64bit might be helpful to have 
a reference configuration very close to a Travis VM, so that people can easily 
reproduce and debug build or test failures.
An exemple of such a Vagrantfile :
