[Qgis-developer] Where are the .QGS project file specifications?

Could anyone share even an old document explaining the .QGS file structure?

This is helpful (though I had to discover what a DTD actually was 
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Document_type_definition>) but is there no 
human-readable documentation anywhere out there?
