Apart from the issue queue I think it would also make sense to have a
look at the pull request queue.
I am sure there are some ready-to-use or minimal-effort improvements there.

I have tagged some which I think should be merged before the release
with "milestone 2.10" (and others which I consider new features with
"milestone 2.12")

Feel free to tag or retag pull requests.
And of course comment, improve and finally merge good stuff.
