[Qgis-developer] Weather data in QGIS

Hi Paolo,

The problem can be split into 2 different parts:
- Data discovery and retrieval 
- Data visualisation

The data discovery and retrieval can be implemented as a plugin using MARS API for example for ECMWF data:
https://software.ecmwf.int/wiki/display/WEBAPI/Accessing+ECMWF+data+servers+in+batch

Data visualisation can be done using Crayfish plugin.

I am not aware of a way to display live data. For example, you can have WMS with time component, but for displaying the data you need to extend WMS support in QGIS to be able to display the data.

is anybody busy getting weather data in QGIS?
There is interesting stuff, e.g.

but it would be good to make it more automatic. It does not seem a lot of work, and it may open interesting options, both for live data and for analyses.
