Urf! That is absolutely terrible news - I really hope we can fix this some how. I propose a good place to start is to dedicate the entire next hackfest to building some world class easter eggs in QGIS. My vote would be for asteroids implemented as a map layer plugin where the polygons on your map turn in to asteroids....

And +1 for more quirky posts like this - sometimes we take ourselves too seriously and it is good to remember that a lot of us are here in the QGIS project because it is FUN!
