[Qgis-developer] Python Developer for Pacific Island

Hi everybody,
I'd like to share with you all a great opportunity of hacking in Fiji.


We are looking for an advanced geospatial python developer to work on
innovative disaster resilience initiative in the Pacific Island
Countries (PICs).

Main tasks to focus on the PacSAFE open source application:

PacSAFE is a desktop tool based on QGIS and InaSAFE plugin
http://inasafe.org/, designed and developed for non-GIS users.

PacSAFE has initially been developed to enable hazard data and asset
data to be used to general impact information to assist planning,
preparedness and response activities for Pacific Island Countries.
Initial development of PacSAFE has focused on inundation hazard exposure
(flood, coastal, tsunami).  The next phase of development will focus on
integrating PacSAFE  into the core InaSAFE project - and joining the
broader InaSAFE developer community and project.


Full time position to be based in Suva, Fiji at the Pacific Community
(SPC) Geoscience Divistion (http://gsd.spc.int/). Short term (~3 month)
to start with possibility of annual extensions up to 3 years based on
performance.


Project Objectives:
- Function as core committer to InaSAFE software development project
working collaboratively with multiple partners and promoting the needs
of the Pacific as part of the PacSAFE initiative. Develop documentation,
training materials;

- Developing and promoting open source GIS solutions, including
applications for field data collection, remote sensing analysis, and
customized solutions for disaster management needs.  Providing technical
training and mentoring to SPC staff, technical experts from PICs.


Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification and at least 5 years
professional experience in relevant field;
- A passion for open source and a background in geospatial technology
- Proven experience at contributing to open source GIS projects.
