Hi Paolo
in case OSGeo will be accepted again we should definitely try to
participate. It is a nice opportunity to find some fresh blood for
QGIS developer community (and get something done).
In general the biggest problem is that some past projects were too
ambitious: the scope was too wide so at the end of the summer the code
had alpha quality instead of being ready for the merge to master
branch. If we will manage to offer projects which could be implemented
and tested during those three months, then the chance of real success
would be much higher.
Another potential issue is mentoring: the mentor should continuously
overlook student's progress. Not following the project closely may be
result in loss a of focus (or interest) of the student.
