Hi all.
Following the discussion at the HF, I sought information from a well known
FOSS-friendly Italian lawyer about protecting QGIS name. This is what I found:
* registration in EU costs 900 € for the registration + 900 € + VAT for the layers
handling the affair
* duration is then 10 years
* this will not cover the rest of the world
* registering qgis all over the globe is a far more expensive affair, and much more
complex
* we have a (weak, as the Python case has pointed out) legal guarantee as a de facto mark
* this second guarantee is essentially valid throughout the world
* we would need a legal entity to start the registration process (the CH association
would be ok).
If you need further info, just let me know. Additional info form other sources are
welcome.
All the best.
