IMHO better have a brand new logo for the new website, so a contest or a bid would be
more appropriate: what are your feeling? Can we proceed in one direction?

Another option could be to just use one of the existing proposals.
I don't think there were any negative comments when the one at
http://hub.qgis.org/issues/6688 was proposed.
It would be your "cleanup and revamp", rather than "a brand new one".
