[Qgis-psc] project feedback to OSGeo

Hi,
Here are some ideas that come to my mind regarding "marketing" of
FOSSGIS:
* A FOSSGIS calender: each month (or week) a different project is
presented. Or a calendar similar to the Geohipster calendar with nice
maps/posters, solely created with FOSS(GIS) software
* Having a good poster about the OSGEO software eco system: how things
fit together. What software can work with each other? What libraries are
used by what software? Where is overlap/competition? Something similar
to ftp://ftp.oreilly.com/pub/poster/oreilly_linux_poster.pdf
* Having some really good case studies with screen shots about FOSSGIS
user from well-known organizations. This is something where the local
chapters could help a lot. Getting into contact with the local major
organizations where they know FOSSGIS is in use and encouraging them to
submit a case study. Here we should get some of the really important
organizations, like IGN, Swisstopo, Ordinance Survey, NASA, ESA, DLR,
local provinces, utility providers, etc. All of them use FOSSGIS to a
certain extent. This is something where also QGIS could improve. We have
a number of case studies from smaller (typically 1-2 people companies or
projects), but we should try to get case studies from larger
organizations in addition to the smaller ones.
* Having a good presentation presenting the different OSGEO projects -
perhaps 2-5 slides per application. What it does? Dependencies and links
to other OSGEO software. Examples/Screenshots. Who uses this software,
etc.
* Poster templates (not just as PDF), but as original (e.g. Inkscape
files) so people can change/localize for their local events.
* Brochures/paper stuff is nice. But locals can print themselves in the
number they need. Again - good templates would help. No need to send
paper around the globe, of course.
I can probably help with case studies a bit - at least for QGIS.
Greetings,
Andreas

Yeah that could work. Thanks for your thoughts Paolo.
