Thanks for this Anita. Just to query the opening sentence “This year will not only be the year of QGIS 3.0!”: If we follow Matthias’ proposal then we have:
2.14 released 26.02.2016
Four months after that we would release 2.16 (approx June 2016)
Four months after that we would release 3.0 beta 1 or whatever we call it (approx Oct 2016)
Four months after that we would release 3.0 (approx Feb 2017)
So assuming we all agree to the proposal, 2017 would be the year of QGIS 3.0 :-)
Or did I get my numbers wrong again (always a strong possibility :-) )?
see Release schedule <https://www.qgis.org/en/site/getinvolved/development/roadmap.html#release-schedule>

Tim
