We have thought this out:

QGIS get's version.txt from https://version.qgis.org/version.txt
and version.qgis.org is NOT going via cloudflare.

You can check on the certificate: our own Letsencrypt instead of the
Comodo one from Cloudflare.

So yes, we can analyze the version.txt downloads to see more or less the
use of QGIS per period (more or less because of: proxy use, bots etc etc).

I'm still double on this. I think we should ask user every now and then
if it is ok to ping back to us.
