I actually see a difference between GDAL and QT, GDAL is a GIS library
targeted to a very specific domain that happens to be the same of QGIS
while QT is a very generic framework used in a huge number of projects, I'd
rather prefer to invest our limited resources in GDAL than in QT because
it's closer to our GIS world.

But if don't really have a choice let's ask KDAB.
