Hi all,
as discussed in mails, chats, phone calls and so on there is obviously a
lots of discussion around the covid-19 situation in Europe and thus our
beloved hackfest in den bosch.
Resuming the current discussions:
- Including earlier trip cancellations, we are down to 32 participants
now (coming from 50)
- the local organisers just had a call and told following:
-- We just had a skype meeting with the organizers and mostly feel like
postponing the hackfest for 1 year. postponing for weeks or months does
not make sense as we have no idea how the virus situation will evolve
-- We also considered having an online hackfest, and a small venue in
The Netherlands (or even my house) for the people already here. Or the
online Dutch team or something
-- And we struggle getting the onboarding day program fixed as the
teachers won't be around
__PERSONAL opinion__
in my personal opinion we should officially focus on multiple online
parallel hack-fests or postpone this as Ray suggests by 1 year so all
the work the LOC already did is not wasted.By going to the hackfest,
aren't we behaving socially badly? Are we not helping the virus instead
of trying to slow it down [2] like everybody is trying?
__End PERSONAL opinion__
If the official physical hackfest it might help people with cancellations.
Ray what do you and the LOC think?
Cheers
Marco
