Comment (by timlinux):

Hi. Yes before making my previous comment, I read through your web page
 http://homepage.mac.com/gregcoats/jp2.html in detail (great presentation
of the issue by the way!), tested each of the available image and they all
displayed identically in both tif and jp2 variants under QGIS svn trunk on
ubuntu heron using the following packages:

 ii libgdal1-1.4.0 1.4.4-1ubuntu3
 Geospatial Data Abstraction Library
 ii libjasper1 1.900.1-3
 The JasPer JPEG-2000 runtime library
 ii libqt4-core 4.4.0-1ubuntu3~hardy1
 transitional package for Qt 4

I could not replicate the issue in any case. This leads me to believe that
one of the dependencies being included with the QGIS package on other
platforms has changed and is causing the issue.

What license are these images under? If you agree I will create a unit
test to compare the images and we can formalise the testing a little more.
I think we should aske Marco Pasetti (windows packager) to do some testing
with his most recent packages too so we can see what the status is with
his windows packages before we put out the release.

 Regards

 Tim
