 Hi just checked qgis 1.4 and the "value tool" plugin works fine with GRASS
 rasters. You may want also to give a look to the attached images.

 With QGIS 1.4 I opened the GRASS mapset in the qgis sample dataset, loaded
 the raster (gtopo30) and changed its colormap with r.colors and closed the
 mapset.

 Then I reopened the mapset and the rasters with qgis 1.5 and this is how
 it shows (plus the value tool error).

 Tested under windows xp, but it should be the same also under linux.
