 It appears that the above is using the standalone Qgis.  I verified that
 it also happens with the full Qgis on OS X 10.6.  Both use the system
 Python 2.6.  It also happens with Qgis trunk.

 But, it works fine on OS X 10.5, which uses the system Python 2.5.
